US Army M240B machine gun
FN MAG 58 machine gun
Brief Description
____________________________________
FN MAG 58 was designed by Fabrique Nationale in 1950s, to serve as a general
purpose machine gun, and known by its great reliability.
M240 series is the US version of FN MAG 58, the only gun met the minimum
specification in the tests to find a replacement coaxial machinegun for U.S. fighting
vehicles and tanks, by 1975. The MAG 58 coaxial machine gun was selected and
type classified M240 in 1976, as a replacement for the M60 Series machine gun.
M240B 7.62mm machinegun is an infantry variant of the original M240/M240C/M240E1
coaxial or pintle mounted machine gun. The M240B has been selected as the new
medium machine gun for the U.S. Army. The M240B is equipped with an integrated
optical feed cover and a handguard with heat shield to provide thermal protection
to the operator.
M240G is the standard US Marine Corps medium machine gun. The Marine Corps is
replacing the M60E3 with the M240G. It is a ground variant of the vehicle mounted
M240 on the LAV and M1 Abrams MBT. The M240G is modified for ground use by the
installation of an "infantry modification kit," comprised of a flash suppressor, front
sight, carrying handle for the barrel, a buttstock, infantry length pistol grip, bipod,
and rear sight assembly.
