M1 Abrams MBT (Main Battle Tank) was designed to replace M60 MBT. The first prototypes was built in 1976. The 105mm gun of M1 tank was replaced by M256 120mm gun in 1981, and designated the prototype M1E1. The M1E1 was accepted for service in Aug 1984 and type classified as the 120mm Gun Tank M1A1.

The M1A1 Abrams tank was first committed to combat in 1991 during Operation Desert Storm, and it was credited with destroying over 2,000 Iraqi tanks, without a single Abram tank being destroyed by hostile tank fire.

The M1A1 is operated by a four men crew consisting a driver, commander, loader and gunner. It is equipped with the M256 120mm cannon and a coaxial 7.62mm M240 machine gun, a loader's M240 MG on skate mount, and a commander's .50 cal M2 MG on powered rotary platform. Powered by Avco-Lycoming Gas Turbine 1500hp engine up to 42mph maximum speed.
